I was just outlining my upcoming video course on how to make business ready website from scratch. In that I plan to include a video on how ecommerce is booming in India despite just about 12.6% Internet penetration (end 2012).
As I take a break after 2 hours of working I come across this wonderful website that gives real-time figures of data generated on the Internet. Awesomely fascinating!
I have no doubt that the amount of data generated varies through the day (and night). It must be more (or so I guess) when the western hemisphere is awake because the Internet penetration is more in those countries as also their engagement across many web destinations.
When I checked at about 3-50 PM India time I found that approximately 2708880 GB of data was transferred over the Internet in only 120 seconds or 2 minutes. A partial view of the data generated is there in the image above.
Here are the details of some of those data generated in just 2 minutes (imagine!):
- 1320 accounts created in Twitter and 684,000 tweets sent
- 640 video hours uploaded and 277680 video hours watched on YouTube
- 120 posts, 1560 comments, and 25440 votes on Reddit
- 2760 blog posts with WordPress as against 55560 posts on Tumblr
- 6120 items purchased on Amazon for an estimated $283080
- 408333360 emails sent
- 1388880 files saved on Dropbox
- 2777760 minutes of conversation on Skype
- 552960 searches made on Google for ad revenue of $192240
- 6263520 likes, 6597120 posts, and 720 GB of data on Facebook
Watch the last 2 figures (sl. 9 &10). Doesn’t it appear that Google is kind of losing its sheen? Or am I reading too much?
