Do you really need to click? Not, if you’re in www.dontclick.it. It’s a funny site and immensely likeable. But it also tells you how ingrained is the habit of clicking with Internet users. In fact the mouse has almost made the use of keyboard redundant, which is why many people are just not aware of keyboard shortcuts that take the place of multiple clicks.
Let me turn to some stats ‘dontclickit’ shows as of now:
Visits: 2086465
Clicks: 1208596, of which accidental is 368487, and intentional 410454.
To the question, Do you miss the click?, the answer ‘No’ is 686739, while those who said ‘Yes’ number 399763.
There is also an automatic click-less survey that gives a comparison of popularity of content-types in the website in the form of a bar chart. Of the 14 types, the most-watched content is ‘Story’, and the least is ‘Commerce’. Surprise?
Dontclickit is not an ordinary site. Presented by Institute Of Interactive Research, it’s excellently informative of human behavior on the Internet.
Oh, I forgot saying you can send an email to them without ‘clicking’. But before you head straight there, here is a last poser.
Do you need the mouse in the site? The answer is ‘yes’ of course, but you don’t need to click. Puzzled? Okay, proceed now.
