From Pass Pass to hotel

September 5, 2007 By Partha Bhattacharya Leave a Comment

Well, it’s not literally the ashes. It’s not a ruin, not even a haunted place that will make way for 2 towering buildings. The Airport Hotel is however destined for journey into oblivion, rather obliteration.

Its new owner, the makers of Rajnigandha, Tulsi and Pass Pass, the Dharampal Satyapal group (DS group in short), has recently purchased the hotel from the MBD group. It now plans to raze the existing structure to the ground, and in its place build a glittering twin-tower hotel, a massive convention center and a shopping arcade to lend a dash of color.

Cleverly the 2 hotels will not have the same format. The bigger one will be a 200-room 5-star property, while the other one will be a relatively small 100-room budget deal. Which means there will be no gap in tapping every range of prospects.

But there is more. A 50,000 sq ft convention center will also come up in the 7.5 acre land, as also a 300,000 sq ft shopping plaza. Between them the net will be cast that much wider to trap a good number of traffic to and from the airport with all their needs met.

But then the airport itself is undergoing transformation, and perhaps there will be all of those that the DS group is planning, albeit in small measures.

Incidentally, both the airport and the DS group venture are slated to share a common debut time, which is likely in 2010.
