It’s not easy to chase elephants with lens in hand, especially if it’s a pair of 2 lovers madly in love. But such is the juice that can be milked from the story that lensmen and scribes from near and far do not mind wading through jungles and ponds to capture the pair in action.
At the center of all eyes is a wild tusker that eloped with a cow-elephant from the temporary campus of Olympic Circus at Kumarbazar near Ranigunj.
Thus commenced the saga of the hero-like male elephant zealously guarding his ladylove from the poaching by her mentor even while showering her with affection that only she deserves.
Onlookers are curious to see how Sabitri, the circus-bred cow elephant, looses her virginity but perhaps the all-important actions have been taking place in the darkness because no such picture has so far splashed the newspapers.
Wildlife experts are consoling the circus owner, Chandranath Banerjee that after the mating is over, Sabitri is likely to heed the call of her mahout, Kalimuddin Sheikh and return to the circus.
Kalimuddin is crestfallen that Sabitri has refused to obey his commands so far. “Sabitri was raised by me since childhood and has always been obedient. But the tusker seems to have stolen her affections,” he said.
As of now there is nothing that can be done to separate them. The forest officials are keeping watch to ensure that nothing is done to unduly disturb them. Who knows, if disturbed in action, they may turn their ire to destroy everything that come handy on their way!
