Whales never cease to wonder. Back in April there was this story of a group of humpback whales that traveled 8000 km for 6 months to give birth to their calves.
The story now is albeit a little different. According to a Reuters report (see the video below), a group of Chilean school students on a biology field trip has stumbled upon a cemetery of whales at a place 100 miles off Santiago, the capital.
This has presumably happened sometime in May, and as of now remains of 4 prehistoric whales have been found that are likely to be 5 million years old.
The Chilean local authorities have decided to declare the area ‘protected’, which is just as it’d be, lest further discoveries may get jeopardized.
