Who would guess the alphabet ‘R’ would be the one to have 2 of the most beautiful housing projects named in Kolkata! You might say, isn’t ‘U’ too popular, what with Bengal Ambuja’s Survey Park project on EM Bypass – the first large-format complex to start in the city – all starting with that alphabet? Or, for that matter, take the example of South City, which till the other day boasted of having the highest buildings in Kolkata?
But if you ask me, it’s ‘R’ that wins hands down – at least for the time being. What are the projects with ‘R’ I’m so effusive about? First is Riverside, the fantastic 262-acre complex coming up on Bata shoe factory’s premises at Batanagar on the banks of Hooghly.
Second is Rosedale Gardens, that 6-tower G+25 complex in New Town, supposedly exclusively for NRIs. And the third is deservedly the Rabi Rashmi Abasan, again in New Town, the first housing project in India to harness and utilize solar power (see this blog-post).
The way these grand projects are shaping up – including Indonesia’s Ciputra group’s grandiose West Kolkata International City near Dankuni and the proposed Salim group’s ventures in south 24 Parganas – there is little doubt Kolkata will turn out a hot destination to live in some 6-7 years down the line.
