Remembering Sukumar Ray

November 10, 2006 By Partha Bhattacharya Leave a Comment

He is father of legendary Satyajit Ray, but before the latter comes to be known as one of the greatest Indian filmmakers, Sukumar Ray has already carved a niche for his writings among the masterpieces of Bengali literature. His nonsense poems are a delight for readers of any age, and indeed they were once part of school curriculum if only to evoke kids to feel the joy of fun and laughter.

Sukumar Ray’s 119th birthday fell on October 30, and to commemorate it here’s a feeble attempt to emulate his great talent. This is sent by my senior friend from Ahmedabad, Sanyal da. If you wish to know more about Sukumar Ray’s talent, refer Zinia Mitra’s essay, Sukumar Ray, Master of Science and Nonsense.
