Crows are the most visible urban scavengers. They search for food in the remotest of the places, even inside your kitchen if it permits them a fair view from outside. Should there be a sudden rush of quite a few of them at a place, rest assured there must be sumptuous meal that has been just discovered by one of them.
There is a saying crows don’t eat their own flesh. It may be because of any plausible reason but the common belief is that they don’t trust one another. Crows hide food in the notches and crevices of buildings and similar places, and when later they come searching for it but don’t find it where it should be, they perhaps assume it’s the doing of of their ilk.
Yet there are occasions when they come in vociferous groups and then their combined kaw-kaws may just make you mad.
In cities like Kolkata the earliest sound you hear at the crack of dawn is that of crow, and it’s them you see last as the daylight fades at dusk.
