As they say, “Go to Kolkata. There is something you can always do to earn your bread.” So, people descend on the city from neighboring and even faraway places in search of livelihood. In course of time they mix with and become part of the vast multitude of the city.
This is the story not only of Kolkata, which is the biggest city in the eastern India and indeed one of the 3 biggest in India. This is the story of nearly every big city in the world where there is no bar on people coming there to eke out living.
Tales abound how people, starting from humble beginning, have made it big in large cities. Theirs are the real-life accounts of transformation from rags to riches in a single generation.
Yet there are many who fail to make it big and are destined to live on the fringes, barely able to manage full meal in a day. Life moves on though amid struggle and success, fame and anonymity, sumptuous feast and hunger, glory and bleak future.
