Gmailing – smooth as silk!
Those of us who use Gmail for their essential doings on the net will know that since early last week Google is coaxing them to use Gmail on mobile phones. Apparently, a freely downloadable Java application is responsible to bring the Gmail interface on your mobile screens, should you agree to it.
This week when Google CEO Eric Schmidt says that future mobile phones should be free for consumers, one wonders what the big deal is (see this report).
It’s clear from the report that increasingly – as much as 8 to 10 hours a day!! – people are using their mobiles to do sundry things like talking, messaging or accessing web. Another noticeable trend is the increasing urge for newer handsets as “consumers opt for new features such as music phones and email-enabled devices”.
Reason enough for Schmidt to suggest free mobile service (I’m sure he doesn’t mean that handsets should be free). But he has a rider attached. It should be for those “who will accept to watch targeted forms of advertising”. Clever, don’t you think?
