On popular demand, here are a couple (plus a third, added later) of images of the effervescent Howrah Bridge (aka Rabindra Setu), two during day, the third with lights on. Pity none is taken by me, I’ve only borrowed them (sources given).
The highlight of recent lighting of Howrah Bridge is that Kokata Port Trust, which has made the thing possible, has many aces up its sleeve. One is of course illuminating the historic bridge in different shades of light (purple in the picture). The other is what they call laser show in mid-river on a giant screen of sheet of water jetted in the air by powerful pumps.
If what has been said in the papers prove true, the laser show can surely be a grand spectacle, provided of course some corporate funds can be shored up to run it.
As for me, I’m easily enamored by the spectacle of fireworks on the occasion of inauguration of the bridge’s illumination. Here at last is a place where sound-prevention brigades will have no sway over enjoying the burst of crackers that so gleefully accompany the scintillating display of fireworks.
