More on mall in the city. The government owns more than 36 bighas of land at Kidderpore’s Orphangunge behind Alipore Zoo and by the side of Tolly’s Nullah.
This is the only city market that the land and land reforms department of the government owns. And now it has decided to develop the market into what else but a giant shopping plaza with all modern amenities.
For one, the location of Orphangunge market is truly attractive. Not only it has a huge area, it also has Alipore as the neighborhood thereby ensuring high-paying customers. The proposed market will have main entrance right on Diamond Harbor Road, which is now a National Highway.
According to plans currently being prepared, the market complex after revamp will have an underground parking lot for trucks, an unloading bay armed with weigh-bridge and conveyor belts, a cold storage, and an auction yard. These are the hardware side of the market.
The software side includes a leisure and recreation center along Tolly’s Nullah for which a part of the canal will be dredged and beautified for boating, and of course a big food court.
Once the process begins, the revamp will begin from the cattle corner where on selected occasions even camels are sold. [Collated from The Telegraph].
