Forget funds, we have not even seen a single petal of a flower, so says Premjit Sen, the Salt Lake (Kolkata) based karate trainer. Premjit just returns from ISKA European Cup at Stuttgart, Germany, where his little trainees have won 9 golds, 8 silvers and 13 bronzes to occupy the 2nd spot in medals tally. He rues that funds and flashbulbs are reserved only for cricketers and singers winning TV contests (read my story below). How true..!
Premjit trains the youngsters on rooftop or on hard uneven surface in a local Salt Lake park. The grind that the young karatekas undergo shows in the results they achieve in the international meet. It’s all the more laudable since Premjit’s training center cannot afford a judo mat – so essential for proper training – as it carries a price tag of Rs.3 lakhs, which is out of bound for him.

Accolade or not, lack of resources isn’t deterring Premjit from dreaming big. He plans to host an international tourney in Kolkata next year. Haven’t we heard, where there is a will, there is a way? Premjit proves the point ever so firmly. Kudos to him and his wards.
