Passionate but passé

December 6, 2006 By Partha Bhattacharya Leave a Comment

Here’s an interesting post on Bengali Passion. He keeps margins on either side. We have Bengalis, who love their tea and keep reminiscing what a great tribe they were. And we have those who have seen it, done them.

In the middle are those, who are striving with whatever meager that is available. The point is culture doesn’t occur in vacuum, just as culture needs an exact environ to flourish. None of the great European cultures have been without tumults and upheavals in the past centuries. So, to think that Bengali culture is passé is assuming too little too soon.

The reason there’s a constant talk of Bengali culture is very simple. There isn’t just any of the class Bengal once had in multiple spheres anywhere in India even today. This is the reality. Take it or leave it, it’s your choice.

Bengal is not what it should have been. But if I’m to forecast based on what’s brewing on ground, it won’t be long before Bengal not only catches up, but exceeds the many ‘hot’ places of India. And then perhaps the doomsayers will have to rush in, if only not to miss cashing in on opportunities.
