If Thursday’s rampage in the Assembly House has no precedent, the Speaker’s decision to throw the house open for public to view it is also unparalleled. According to reports, over 35,000 people turned up on Friday – a bandh day – not to miss that rare entry inside the hallowed precincts of the Assembly House to see what democratically elected representatives have done (see my post).

The images of the Assembly I saw on television were really disturbing. I am yet to get my voting rights, but such scenes in a place like the Assembly do not send the right signals to youngsters like us.
The show is on till Sunday from 10 to 4. Many of us Kolkattans would perhaps not like to miss this first-ever unique spectacle of vandalism as a treasured memory.
