Ask them why so late. The nonchalant answer will be, it’s under planning. No matter you and me have to fret and fume as to why the hell should you be suffering for no fault of yours. Well, it’s about the way they plan the flow of traffic on busy thoroughfares.
If you are stranded in hot and sunny peak hours at EM Bypass crossings at Ruby Hospital or Science City, sweating profusely under your garments, waiting endlessly for the lights to turn green, you’d understand what it means to be one of those hapless commuters.
The authorities, today’s TT informs, are thinking to cut Bypass islands at the 2 crossings to size to allow smooth flow of traffic. Oh my, they’ve at last started to think!
If Bypass holdup at peak hours is a concern for Kolkattans in the south, the northerners are no better. We come to know that once the second Vivekananda Bridge opens up, which is due any time soon, the avalanche of vehicles running down the nearly 6-km pathway will face blockade at Dunlop because the planned flyover there meant for their quick disbursal is yet to be built.
The Tollway Company that executed the mammoth Rs.646-crore bridge, and now have plans to collect toll from vehicles that pass once it opens, is apprehensive.
No, it doesn’t doubt that the vehicles will come hurtling down. It’s only that they feel the torrent will be much less than what it should be because the fear of traffic jam at Dunlop is going to be real to thwart them altogether.
If only life could ever be without this inept class of people, who unfortunately constitute the ‘authorities’ to look after citizens’ problems!
