Yahoo! acquires MyBlogLog

January 10, 2007 By Partha Bhattacharya Leave a Comment

MyBlogLog is not just another social networking site. Here, one has to own a blog – any blog for that matter – to gain ‘admission’, and thereafter one can build a network with other blog-owners across the web.

If a blog-owner is a paid member of MyBlogLog, which Kolkata Musing is, he or she can insert a code into the html of the blog, whereby it is possible to track human visitors – where they come from, which pages they view and above all what links they click.

Though MyBlogLog doesn’t seem to be able to track all visitors (that is what is my experience), it provides a fair way to judge visitor movement to and away from a blog. But MyBlogLog is much more than this. It provides an array of widgets that are pretty cool.

For example, there is one that informs top 5 links, updated hourly, that are clicked by visitors. There is another that lets know 5 recent readers (and their pictures) from among MyBlogLog community.

Founded in 2005 by the duo, Eric Marcoullier and Todd Sampson, MyBlogLog has in a short span of less than 2 years chalked up a thriving social network of blog-owners. The fame and name of this US (Orlando) based entity have reached many shores, among whom is the web-giant Yahoo!.

Which is why Yahoo! has now stepped in to acquire MyBlogLog to have it as another feather in the cap of Yahoo! Developer Network group (read this story). As an avid user, I look forward to more feature-rich functions in not-so-distant future.
