YouTube versus UTube

Ever thought that a website might shut down because of too much traffic? Well, that’s a reality. At a time when millions of websites like this one aspire for some amount of visitors‘ interest, there is at least one that detests surge in traffic. Unbelievable yet true. Here’s why.

The site, utube.com, mistaken as youtube.com, the great video-sharing portal, received as many as 68 million hits in August last, even as hype built up on account of YouTube’s imminent buyout by Google. In spite of such massive number of hits, no gain apparently accrued to the Ohio company, Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment Corp., the owner of the site, utube.com.

No second-guessing as to why utube.com suffered. But suffer it did. So much so that it had to move its site 5 times in an effort to stay ahead of youtube.com visitors. To no avail. And therefore, Universal Tube has slapped a law-suit on YouTube Inc., now a Google entity, to either stop using the domain, youtube.com, or pay it the cost for creating a new domain. Wonders do happen. Thank God they do, else life would be so dull and predictable.
